The day you got in your car for the first show of the season you dreaded the end to this weekend, that one weekend the majority of the US travels as far as they have to and do what they have to get to Ocean City, Maryland.
Thursday morning at the crack ass of dawn, myself and my buddy Eric were on the way down there, the 8 hour trip from Rhode Island was a long one but not in fact the longest, plenty of Florida and Texas dudes were in attendance, we arrived in OC around 4 pm and there was already a decent amount of people cruising around the strip but it was only the beginning. Come Friday things had changed quite a bit, upon waking I could here the thousands of different exhaust notes cruising up and down the strip. Today is when that tingly feeling you get when your really excited gets overwhelming, tell me you didn’t feel it to and I would say that you were not remotely close to Ocean City.
The strip all weekend was teeming with new metal, not only were there nice VW/Audi cars, but there were JDM beasts a lurking, and Bavarian monsters all around. Notables would have to be that black Evo on some polished dishies with a huge I mean HUGE front mount, scraping the ground and it sure did sound like a big power car. Than you had some super clean civics on CCWs as well as some straight track dominating CRX’s and supras. On the Bavarian side of things we were treated to some ridiculously low E36′s, like my friend Josh’s E36 m3 that is straight scraping the ground. We also had our fair share of locals and other travelers in not so nice cars.
Other than the cars this weekend is about partying, All along the strip people are posted up at the various GTGs and hotels. On Saturday night the free beer party was going on at the Sea Cove motel so there was quite a few heads there so when the Sun Fest traffic started so did the heckling, 100 drunken VW enthusiasts in one spot cannot be too much fun for those driving by. 45th street was another hot spot where the red light challenge was going on and crazy things were going on there. The convention center is always a good time with probably close to a thousand people hanging out there. Other than the parking lot pimpin going on plenty of us make it out to the largest bar/club in the area, Seacrets, Jamaica, USA. With multiple rooms for dancing or chilling and what seems to be 100 bars inside of it. Due to the people who go to the bars (including myself) the buses are always an entertaining time with drunks galore on them, and quite a few people passed out on the buses.
The show itself is mainly a Sunday show with the Big Ass BBQ on Saturday, which is more of a meet and greet and also the day they pick out the Top Dawg class. But Sunday is the day that matters, the countries best show cars from Air Cooled To MK6′s to Audis are all in attendance. This year has been no different than years past with some absolutely stunning cars, my and many others personal favorites was the mint green Scirocco on Polished BBS Splits. For Mk3′s the two green Gengstout stunners real stood out again, just straight well put together. Most of the cleanest Mk4′s were found in the booths up and down the main vendor drag. Top Dawg had some really nice cars in there, but I think we can all agree that some of those cars didn’t quite belong, but that is the fault of the people not showing up when they are suppose to get picked.
All in all I can most definitely tell you that I am highly depressed that I have to wait an entire year to do this all again, yes yes I know Dubs on the Beach, but its not the same. There is not close to 20k cars and enthusiasts. It is the one thing we can all look forward to for next year.
Euromedian Appreciates everyone who came by the booth, whether you talked, looked at us in wonder, checked out the video, purchased a shirt or a sticker, checked out either of our feature cars, showed to us that we are doing it right. If it wasn’t for you guys than I obviously would not be penning this write up or taking these pictures for you guys to enjoy. Hope to see you guys again at Fall Show n’ Go.
