Hi, my name is Baz Tunnicliffe I’m 30 years old and live in a little town called Nuneaton, England. I’m married with 2 kids and am currently unemployed after being made redundant. Hobbies include photography, graphic design, playing the drums (it’s been a while tbf) and the main pastime – sitting on the computer looking at pictures of other peoples cars!
How long have you owned this car?
I traded my 1 year old Seat Ibiza with 8k on the clock for this old clunker in 2007 so .. erm 3 years
Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
Not that I know of – its kind of a rare colour and it has a bunch of extra features from the factory.
What other cars did you consider?
Fabia vRS, Mk4 Golf, Mazda 6 (?)
What was your objective with this car?
Just to have a nice looking daily to drive about in really.
What tuning style would you describe this car as?
OEM+ a little US inspiration
Who helped you build this car?
My friends Simon, Woody helped out with air install. Dan for help with plenty of other stuff, Sam for too much peer pressure and taking sick pictures (www.flickr.com/photos/samtrav) Also thanks to Nick, Ben and Chris at R-Tech/Tuneside , all of uk-mkivs and the old Dubclique.
What makes your car special?
It’s my first VW and the first car I’ve modified.
What is your favorite part/feature/function?
It’s going to have to be the Air– so versatile how I can ride low, park lower but also adjust the height for different situations.
Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
I first started looking on forums like uk-mkivs to get some advice before buying the car, after seeing everyone else’s work I was hooked but there were mostly only Golfs over here, not too many nicely done Bora’s. Once I started browsing Vortex and discovering some amazing looking Jetta’s it all went to downhill ! lol
What don’t you like about this car?
It’s not very fast but I can live with that, Boot size and shape isn’t the best – having a family means trying to fit all kinds of random crap into the back. I’m definitely on the lookout for a wagon as my next project.
What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
Money, time, knowledge, skill … the list goes on.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
A solid B minus
What would you do to the car if money were no object?
If money were no object I would give away the car and start fresh – that’s the fun part!
Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
The wife – she hates me for spending so much time and money on the damn thing!
Who gets to drive this car?
Only Me. Oh, my mate Sam borrowed it whilst I was on holiday – I needed a new windscreen when I got back !
If your car had a motto, what would it be?
Suspension before wheels.
If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
Naming cars is gay – fact
What one word best describes your car?
Learningcurve
