Matthew Maitland's MKIV on Porsche Speedline Splits. Title says it all.
Thursday September 2 2010
Hello I’m Matthew Maitland from Northampton from the UK and this is my MK4.
How long have you owned this car?
Just about 3 years.
Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
Not overly.
What other cars did you consider?
For a second I considered an S3, but I always really wanted a mk4 to be honest.
What was your objective with this car?
When I bought the car I had a vision in my head of exactly how I wanted it to look, 3 years later and
a lot of hard work its there. Although I haven’t gone a little further
than I first intended, I just caught the bug I guess.
What tuning style would you describe this car as?
Id say its OEM/Euro styled.
Who helped you build this car?
My dad has helped a hell of a lot during the build as well as my mates, specifically my resident vw man Steve!
What makes your car special?
My 4 way air, lets me 3 wheel like Snoop dog
What is your favorite part/feature/function?
My favorite part has to be the wheels, as I bought them in a very bad way and build them all up myself. Although they look like most other Porsche wheels, they are actually 3 piece Techart Daytonas by speedline and after looking all over the internet I have still only ever seen a few sets.
Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
The US scene has been a huge inspiration to me, as well as the attention to detail the UK scene brings.
What don’t you like about this car?
One thing I am thinking of changing for next year is the r32 front, It will be making way for a us spec front.
What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
I guess finances, just saving as much as I could to meet the deadlines of different shows through the different stages of the build.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
I would say about an 8, the plans I have next year will hopefully take it higher!
What would you do to the car if money were no object?
It would have a fresh respray in Nimbus grey, lots more carbon parts, a smoothed bay with a fully chromed engine…lol the list goes on I guess.
Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
Probably myself, being a designer, I am incredibly anal about things, so everything has to be done well.
Who gets to drive this car?
Mainly me, although I have let a few friends drive it, mainly because I have been to hungover to drive!
