My name is Derick and I reside in the suburbs of Chicago. I currently work for Komet Motorsports (www.kometmotorsports.com) as a tech building cars and other fast toys. I wouldn’t say that I have any specific hobbies, as I am always all over the map with everything. Some of the things I do enjoy the most, is working on my car, photography, graphic designs, and of course spending time with my girlfriend Aimee and my friends.
How long have you owned this car?
I have owned my car for little bit over 2 years. Picked it up completely un-molested back in June of 2008 (at least I think so lol)
Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
Other than it not making as much power as I won’t, probably nothing but there is always a fix for that. On a side note it does have a pretty unique trunk suede trunk setup, full JL audio system, a custom three stage pearl paint job, and some other bits and pieces that make the car what it is.
What other cars did you consider?
What cars didn’t I consider would be the proper question. This car was more of a spur of the moment deal, and I just needed a car. This is however my 2nd VW with my first being a 2004 VW GTI.
What was your objective with this car?
I really didn’t have any objectives to start with, but I ended up wanting to build a car that would be unique and fast at the same time.
What tuning style would you describe this car as?
Derick’s style lol… There really isn’t much of any particular style that was used, but I did try my hardest to make it as OEM as possible.
Who helped you build this car?
Pretty much everything was done by me with some help from my father and my friends. However I do have to give big thanks to AWE Tuning, Unitronic, Air Lift Company, Forge Motorsport, and Snow Performance for helping me getting the proper parts/software I needed.
What makes your car special?
I would have to say it would be the whole color combination of the car. The fact that I have kept the color so close to the OEM color, and made it into a 3 stage pearl was a huge success.
What is your favorite part/feature/function?
My most favorite part would probably be the air suspension by Air Lift. There is nothing better than being able to adjust your height at any given point with a simple push of a button.
Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
There really wasn’t much inspiration to it. I spent a lot of time researching everything, looking at parts, different cars, and just kind of bunched everything together to what it is now.
What don’t you like about this car?
It’s slow… At least to me it is. Coming form a 400whp STI I knew this car would be nowhere comparable, but I will have more power than that after winter 
and than I can say good bye traction lol!
What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
Money. It is always the issue. Everything is so expensive, and I have to say I owe a lot to my sponsors, because without them this car would not exist!
On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
I would say 6-7. The only reason is that I want more POWER!!!
What would you do to the car if money were no object?
If money was no object I would buy a Lamborghini for my daily driver, and than do a full motor build, some insane turbo setup that hasn’t been done before, and throw in a 4-motion swap. But that’s of course if money was not an issue. I guess the forged rods/pistons and a GT3071 will have to do..
Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
I would have to say it would be my girlfriend Aimee. Her patience level thought the whole build was just amazing. But even with all the bitching she does, she still provides good opinions!
Who gets to drive this car?
Me, me, and me. And sometimes my Dad, and Aimee.
If your car had a motto, what would it be?
Umm.. That’s a tough one.. I never really thought about it.
If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
It doesn’t really have a name, but it does have a title, and that would be “the dϋrty whőre”
