Hey my names Indy, but if you’ve heard of the internet, then you probably know me as Dubz. Born and brought up in West London and aged 22, I am one of the guys behind Autobahn25.com (Shameless plug, but make sure you check it out! lol). I’m currently not married, but have a long term girlfriend who I’ve been with for quite a while now! This is my third Mk3 Golf and is my second VR6…What can I say, I love them!
How long have you owned this car?
I bought this car since March 2008 from a Farmer up in Scarborough!
Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
Well, not really, apart from the fact that when I bought it I spent about 3 days cleaning the hay and other farmyard substances from inside it!
What other cars did you consider?
I always wanted a VR6, so when I found this one, I wanted it as it was exactly what I was after.
What was your objective with this car?
The initial objective was to not go as crazy on it as I did my previous car and try and keep it as my daily, which it has been until about a month ago when I was given a company car.
What tuning style would you describe this car as?
I’d say it would definitely be Euro Style.
Who helped you build this car?
A lot of my friends and family have contributed to the build of this car in their own ways, My dad and 2 brothers, Bijesh and the guys at Yaash Motorsports, Tesh, Jas, Gav, Sunny of Styledynamix and of course the AB25 crew (mainly Pete, Saty & Zebbs) are just a few that spring to mind straight away…But it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my girlfriend who although has limited car knowledge, goes out of her way to help me with it (especially when it goes to the garage and I have no way of getting around!) – She definitely has helped a LOT in her own way!
What makes your car special?
Well although some people say BBS RS wheels are a common choice for the Golf (Which is true, I guess), I think because of the choices I have made in regard to colour scheme and modifications, I think I have made the car simple, yet effective. Most people don’t even realise half the things I have done to the car until I point them out!
What is your favourite part/feature/function?
Definitely the wheels! After spending months of building them up in my spare time, they are EXACTLY what I wanted and sit perfectly on the car. Couldn’t be happier with them! Although I hate how high maintenance they are!
Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
There wasn’t really a direction to be honest. Everything was pretty much done as it went along, but obviously I had an idea of what I wanted to do. I remember seeing a picture of a Black US Mk3 on Red Jap Wheels and Hella Red Rears and thinking “Damn that looks good!”, so I guess you could say that kind of counts for the inspiration aspect of things.
What don’t you like about this car?
The Insurance! Leaves me broke all the time!!
What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
I would have to say that the biggest obstacle I faced whilst building this car was trying to get it completed in time for Ultimate Dubs 2010 whilst studying for the final year exams for my degree at university. That was a seriously stressful period, and the car only came back from getting re-sprayed the day before UD10, so I wasn’t even sure if it would be making an appearance!
On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
I would say honestly I am 8/10 happy with the car. There are a few things I would like to do when I’ve got my finances sorted. Cosmetically I am very happy with it, but I just want more power!!
What would you do to the car if money were no object?
If money were no object, the car would be on air-ride and have a supercharger bolted to the side of the engine!
Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
My Dad – He just doesn’t get it sometimes lol!
Who gets to drive this car?
A few trusted people…I think out of everyone Bijesh and Jas are probably the two who have been able to borrow it for the longest periods of time!
If your car had a motto, what would it be?
Aim for the impossible and you will achieve the improbable
If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
The Slag.
What one word best describes your car?
Mine.
