a jdm inspired polo, that’s euro approved.

My names Nathan Howell i’m 21, living in Nottinghamshire, England and this is my Polo 6n.

How long have you owned this car?
I’ve had the car about 2 and a half years now but its only really just begun to take shape and look how it does within the last few months.

Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
From the moment I bought it, it was nothing but trouble! Within a month the engine had overheated and cooked itself, i then went through 2 gearboxes within months of each other! A few months ago the police then confiscated the car, on the grounds of it being too low and the wheels poking too much, the car was taken from me there and then, leaving me a good 70 miles away from home with no way of getting back! I then had to put the car back to standard and have it re-MOT’d, once i had the MOT certificate in my hand, it went straight back to how it was when the police took it.

What other cars did you consider?
At the time of buying it, i wanted to get into the VW scene, the Polo was a cheap and cheerful way of doing this and makes a little bit of a change to all the Golfs about. i didn’t really consider anything else, i wanted a Polo and thats what i was going to get!

What was your objective with this car?
I want to build a Polo with a pretty mad stance, as most Polos are just dropped on some obvious wheels but not really sitting great. at the same time i wanted to give it a JDM style theme, as again, alot of the Polos are running smoothed bumpers and being resonably subtle. the racey JDM feel makes a refreshing change in my opinion.

What tuning style would you describe this car as?
I’d say JDM, i took alot of inspiration from the way people modify Hondas, like Civics and Integras.

Who helped you build this car?
I’m very fortunate to have a great group of friends that all help each other out, if it wasn’t for them, then i’d probably get nothing done! so i guess i can take this oppotunity to say thanks to Oli Moor, Andrew Carter and Adam Whitworth! Theres many more who help, but these guys are always there to help, many a late night has been spent with them!

What makes your car special?
I guess the fact that its a bit different from the norm, that and the rare parts, like the Jap spec bootlid and lights.

What is your favorite part/feature/function?
Theres so much! everything i decide that goes on the car is given alot of thought, but my favorite thing at the moment is the wheels, i just love the way they sit. 15×8 et15 and a 165/50/15, the stretch is a bit crazy, but its perfect for me.

Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
As i say, i have a huge Jap thirst right now, so thats influenced the build a lot. But if it wasn’t for the mates around me, then the car would look nothing like it does… i guess we push each other to do things.

What don’t you like about this car?
I hate the fact it only has a baby engine! but thats all set to change soon enough

What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
MOTs and the Police! they’re the main culprits!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
It changes daily, but right now its an 8, it could be a 4 tomorrow or a 9, depending on what side of the bed i get up on

What would you do to the car if money were no object?
It’d be a RWD conversion and a K20! we can all dream, eh!

Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
That’d be me, theres only a select few people whos opinions i value enough to make me change my mind about anything.

Who gets to drive this car?
Me and who ever is about to drive it so i can see it rolling and hear the exhaust popping!

If your car had a motto, what would it be?
‘I love to fuck Nath over.’

If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
It gets a fair few names throw at it when it decides not to work!

What one word best describes your car?
JayDeeeeM
