Event Coverage | M.I.V.W – Valkenburg Air base, Netherlands, July 18th

For those who don’t know the M.I.V.W (Men In Volkswagen) crowd are a
top bunch of Dutch VW enthusiasts who have been hosting their own one
day show for the past seven years. In that time it’s grown
exponentially from a humble, grassroots show into what has to be one of
the largest one day events on the European dubbing calender. In a
nutshell…. its massive!

And this years turnout probably took even the organizers by surprise.
Talking with one of the main men behind the event, Cor Van Leeuwen, he
highlighted that of the 520 rooms in the official NH Hotel that we
stayed at some 318 of them were occupied by eager overseas visitors.

The main air craft hangers harbored some serious air and water cooled
talent and trying to pick a favorite wasn’t easy, but Jamie Simm’s
Olive Green Mk4 Golf R32 alongside the awesome Graffiti engine bay of
the German R32 were certainly in the running. Then there was Edwin
Steenbergen’s amazing 6N Polo GTI on Lincoln Town Car rims and also the
G-Werks prepped Red Caddy van on Mason tech air ride and Rotiform
rims.

Held at Valkenburg airfield mid way between Rotterdam and Amsterdam,
it’s entirely possible to treat MIVW as one massive party weekend,
taking in some legalized prostitution and some nuclear strength green
along the way, but for most the excitement of 1500 of the mainland
Europe’s best Dubs is enough to satisfy their lust. Still… being the
most liberal country in the world and not indulging in some magic ‘Shrooms
is almost as bad as not getting to the show until halfway through the
day because the quality, diversity and engineering prowess on offer
was truly exceptional.

Book your flights now and we’ll see you at Valkenburg next year… unless,
of course, Cor, Emile, Big Ron and many of the other MIVW crew decide
to make the show even bigger and better in 2011.
