Featured Car: James Ford drives low, but parks lower in his GTI.

I don’t think i’ve ever been more excited to do a feature on a car. Although i am bias towards MK3′s theres nothing better in my opinion clean, well done mk3. From the unique wheels, to the perfect stance this car truly shows how little you have to do to a VW to make them look sick. Enjoy the feature, i sure did.

Sup, I’m James ‘oldskool’ Ford from London, England and I’m a Architect/Writer/Photographer..

How long have you owned this car?
Ive owned my mk3 for just over a year now. I got it in November 2008

Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
Unfortunately not. Id love to say there was some bizarre story behind the cars origins. I guess the fact it was bone stock from the off is kind of cool.

What other cars did you consider?
It was always going to be a mk3 after I sold my old mk2 golf project – Savage Henry. You can make them look good with hardly any mods at all.

What was your objective with this car?
To get it as low as I possibly could and drive it every day.

What tuning style would you describe this car as?
That’s a tough one. I ran with the whole ‘murdered’ theme for a long time. Ive got a thing for Japanese wheels so I guess the car fits into the j-euro scene.

Who helped you build this car?
A lot of people along the way, the rest of f62 in particular but ive tried to do most of the work myself in the street outside my house.

What makes your car special?
I don’t know really. People seem to like it and its had quite a lot of independent blog exposure aside from that on out own [itsalmossttime.co.uk] which has been pretty overwhelming.

What is your favorite part/feature/function?
Its got to be the air ride. Im running a full Bagyard Supreme set up from the guys out in Austria and Andrew at Open Road Tuning. I just cant rate that kit highly enough and boy does it go low!

Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
At the minute the US scene is such an inspiration. I went out to H20 late last year and the whole experience, the people, the cars and the atmosphere was so interesting I came away on a real high.

What don’t you like about this car?
The paint work is not the best, and up until last week I would have said the gearbox and the brakes… but thats all taken care of now!

What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
Time and money are always a big obstacle.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
I love this car and am really pleased with how its sunned out so id have to say an 8 or a 9.

What would you do to the car if money were no object?
A full respray would be awesome and a color change in a nice sage green or similar. At least then I could ruin the arches all over again.

Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
Myself

Who gets to drive this car?
Me and any of f6 who manage to find the keys.

If your car had a motto, what would it be?
Drive low park lower.

If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
Dr Gonzo.

What one word best describes your car?
Damaged.
