Featured Car: Get all lovey dovey with Carl Shakespeare’s GTI.

Hello World, my name is Carl Shakespeare, or Shakey, 26 from the sunny southcoast. I am the owner of Studio Incar a custom car audio specialists. I’m into all genres of music, car culture, wheel fitment and detailing, photography and VW’s.

How long have you owned this car?
Just about 1 year.

Is there anything unique about the history of this car?
The car was owned by UK legend uncle Steve, Mr Steve Denton of stylehous fame.

What other cars did you consider?
None, mk2′s are where its at, ive dabbled with jap turbo machinery, british oldskool stuff etc etc, and nothing makes it more worth it than a sorted mk2..

What was your objective with this car?
As clean as possible, retaining almost everything as the way it was intended but with a little touch of me. the car gets driven every day, so it also needs to drive well, i have a thing for VW’s abf engine, it was always getting one, and since it has its always been driven properly. Just a nice tidy daily car, that can be shown if i want to.

What tuning style would you describe this car as?
OEM+

Who helped you build this car?
Some real good friends, paul, damo, geoff, Darren and the rest of the G-werks lads rob etc to name a few and a massive shout to jay schoffield, what a star.

What makes your car special?
It originality for me, to the majority it would be “them” wheels.

What is your favorite part/feature/function?
The paint, other than third party marks, the paint is flawless., the colour is perfect.

Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car?
My own passion for VW’s really, it doesn’t follow any trends i’d like to think and i don’t really listen to what people tell me i should do, quite simply something i really really enjoy driving, cleaning, looking at, cleaning, listening to, cleaning.

What don’t you like about this car?
The fact i’m an installer and i have the worst audio in there!!

What was your biggest obstacle in building this car?
It’s not been that much of a rough ride, the headgasket went on me on the way to PLAYERS show last year so we swapped out the engine for an ABF tall block motor, 16 hours start to finish and we had done it!! oh, and getting the wheels to fit was a 3 day job.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project?
8, i have bad days but right now i am really feeling it. i could do with sorting a few things and then it’l go up to around 9.5 ish…

What would you do to the car if money were no object?
Eaton charge it, with a smooth (retaining factory lines) bay, i would buy the parts and do it all myself, and my group of mates.

Who has been your biggest critic of this project?
My mate paul, he can be a right twat about it too! haha other than that it would have to be me, from anyone else really doesnt matter.

Who gets to drive this car?
Anyone who ask’s, brake it buy it right? but seriously, i will/do let anyone drive it.

If your car had a motto, what would it be?
it wouldn’t say anything, it’d nod its head in appreciation.

If you had to name your car, what would you name it?
god knows!!

What one word best describes your car?
shakey’s :D
